GERIK: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who today successfully underwent an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure to treat an abdominal hernia (para-umbilical hernia), is expected to require a period of less than a week for follow-up treatment and rest.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, he was informed directly by Anwar regarding the treatment and minor surgery that would be undergone last Tuesday.

“No matter how minor it is, he requires ‘down time’ of at least two days, but in my opinion he needs sufficient rest time.

“He also told me that during his absence, he requested for me to chair the Cabinet Meeting,”

he said at a press conference after the launch of the Strategic Plan on Social Determinants of Health for Orang Asli (NSPSDHOA) 2026-2035 at Kampung Orang Asli Air Banun, here, today.

Ahmad Zahid also asked the public to pray for the well-being and recovery of the Prime Minister.

“Let us all pray that he is granted recovery and returns to health to continue serving the country for the benefit of all the people,” he said.

The Chief of the Medical Team to the Prime Minister, Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah said the procedure went smoothly under the care of a team of medical specialists.

He said, Anwar is now undergoing physiotherapy treatment and is under the close observation of a team of medical specialists.
