RIYADH, July 20 : A powerful new documentary titled “The Destination,” produced by Konoz Initiative under the Saudi Ministry of Media, has officially premiered, offering a striking portrayal of Saudi Arabia’s dynamic transformation under Vision 2030. The film captures the kingdom’s evolution across political, economic, cultural, and sports arenas, presenting a modern, globally competitive image far removed from its formerly conservative reputation.
Rather than merely listing achievements, The Destination tells a visual story of Saudi Arabia’s rise—from deserts to smart cities—as it positions itself as a leading force in the modern Islamic world. Featuring stunning footage from across the Kingdom, the documentary delivers a compelling message: The Arab world is advancing, and Saudi Arabia is leading the way.
The film is now available for streaming on Shahid, STC TV, and Saudi national TV channels, as well as on the official platforms of the Ministry of Media and Konoz.
Notable figures featured in the documentary include:
-
Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies
-
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Saud, Saudi Minister of Sports
-
Mazen Al-Sudairi, Ministerial Council Advisor
-
Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Authority
-
Dr. Firas Khalil, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at King Faisal Specialist Hospital
Beyond high-profile projects and institutions, the film focuses on ordinary Saudis—students, creators, and innovators—who represent the human backbone of the Kingdom’s transformation. Every region of Saudi Arabia is represented, reinforcing the documentary’s theme of inclusive, nationwide change.
“The Destination” was first announced at the ImpaQ Forum in December 2024, alongside several other films under the Konoz banner, involving:
-
Nine national studios
-
80 production companies
-
More than 2,600 local talents
This underscores the Saudi government’s robust commitment to building a competitive local content industry capable of thriving on the global stage.
The Konoz Initiative is a key part of the Human Capability Development Program (HCDP) under Vision 2030, which aims to capture Saudi Arabia’s rich culture, historical heritage, and citizen achievements through compelling documentaries and short films. Previous productions like Hard Phase, Station 7, Seagull of Arabia, and What Saudis Eat have won international awards and been showcased at major global film festivals.
A Regional Perspective: Gulf–Southeast Asia Dialogue:
In Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, The Destination sparks important reflection on how nations can craft inclusive visual narratives that embody national identity, societal change, and global relevance. Saudi Arabia’s bold storytelling approach resonates with Malaysia’s own efforts to develop a sustainable, boundary-crossing media industry.
This opens the door for deeper cooperation between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia in areas like co-productions, media training, and knowledge exchange. Just as Saudi Arabia shares its evolving culture with the world, Malaysia also holds a rich multicultural narrative ready to engage in global dialogue—on equal terms, not in submission, but in meaningful interaction.
