JEDDAH, 9 July 2025 (Voice of Malaysia) — In a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at reinforcing regional stability, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his delegation at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The meeting comes at a critical time as the Middle East faces continued geopolitical turbulence and efforts intensify to bolster bilateral ties between Riyadh and Tehran, two regional powerhouses with a historically complex relationship.
During the discussions, the crown prince and the Iranian foreign minister reviewed the state of Saudi-Iranian relations and exchanged views on recent regional developments, with a particular focus on the evolving security landscape.
Crown Prince Mohammed expressed hope that the current ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel would serve as a foundation for broader regional stability and the de-escalation of longstanding tensions.
Reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s commitment to diplomacy, he emphasized that dialogue remains essential in resolving disputes and fostering long-term peace across the Middle East.
Foreign Minister Araghchi, in turn, thanked the Kingdom for its stance in condemning Israeli aggression, and commended the crown prince’s personal leadership and consistent efforts toward advancing peace and mutual understanding in the region.
He noted that constructive Saudi-Iranian engagement is vital for the region’s future, especially amid the fragile dynamics between major players and the urgency for multilateral cooperation.
The meeting was attended by senior Saudi officials, including:
-
Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz
-
Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah
-
National Security Advisor Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban
Earlier in the day, Prince Faisal bin Farhan received Foreign Minister Araghchi in Makkah, where the two counterparts held a separate round of talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring regional cooperation mechanisms.
Their discussions touched on the regional security architecture, ways to reduce friction, and strategies for sustainable collaboration in a volatile geopolitical climate.
The renewed diplomatic outreach between Saudi Arabia and Iran comes in the wake of shifting alliances and recent escalations across the Middle East. Analysts view this latest round of high-level dialogue as a positive step toward reducing polarization and encouraging a multipolar regional order rooted in diplomacy, not confrontation.
