Sembrong UMNO Division Requests Former Deputy President Hishammuddin’s Immediate Reinstatement

KLUANG—UMNO’s Sembrong division has presented a motion asking the party leadership to swiftly lift former UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s six-year suspension. The group cites his vast expertise as essential to reviving the party and assisting the government.

At the division’s annual delegates’ meeting today at Dewan Dato’ Onn in the Sembrong Community Hall, Datuk Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid, the head of UMNO Sembrong, made the motion. With the 16th General Election approaching, he emphasized that Hishammuddin’s extensive background in both UMNO and federal government service will bolster the party.

“We have submitted this motion for the second year in a row,” Abdul Ghani informed the delegates. It is evident that our members want Datuk Seri Hishammuddin to return unconditionally. There is no denying his aura in Sembrong, and I have no doubt that all of our voters want him to be their MP candidate.

The division’s Women’s Chief Datuk Noraslina Zainal Abidin, Youth Chief Hafiz Ariffin, and Puteri Chief Noreha Hussin were present at the meeting, which was formally inaugurated by UMNO Johor Chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

On January 27, 2023, Hishammuddin’s membership was suspended for six years by then-Secretary General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. He missed two UMNO Supreme Council election cycles as a result of the suspension.

The appeal from the Sembrong division coincides with UMNO’s extensive restructuring, which has resulted in the suspension or expulsion of several top leaders, including former Selangor UMNO Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar, former Information Chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan, and former Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Abdul Ghani personally urged Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the president of UMNO, to give the resolution a favorable consideration and reinstate Hishammuddin’s party rights “as soon as possible.”
