KUALA LUMPUR – The Federal Territory branch of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association (PKMM) held its 43rd Annual General Meeting today, which also featured the election of a new leadership team for the next three-year term.

The President of PKMM Federal Territory, Datuk Amran Mohamad, stated that this year’s election was uncontested, with all positions won automatically.

“This meeting was attended by 50 delegates from across the country, including state presidents and the PKMM Secretary-General. We were also honoured by the presence of the Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Azman Abidin,” he said.

According to Amran, his keynote address focused on the welfare of contractors, particularly those in the G1 category who are currently facing a lack of job opportunities.

“We’ve seen a 30 percent surge in contractor registrations from 2023 to 2025, especially in the G1 class. This is due to the reopening of registration after 2021, which has led to an oversupply of contractors,” he explained.

In response, PKMM Federal Territory is proposing that the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) temporarily suspend the renewal of new licenses for the G1 class to prevent the situation from worsening.

At the same time, he urged that mega projects worth billions of ringgit be broken down into smaller scopes so that G1 to G4 contractors can also participate.

“For example, from a RM200 million project, allocate RM100 million and break it into smaller packages. Don’t give everything to G7 contractors. This way, smaller contractors can also benefit,” he said.

Additionally, he noted that as a result of PKMM’s continuous efforts, concession projects have started to be awarded to small contractors over the past three years.

“We are grateful that many small contractors are now able to benefit from concession projects that were previously dominated by large companies,” he said.
