Miri Landslide: Last Victim, Elderly Woman, Found Deceased
The final victim of the landslide tragedy at Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri, identified as 71-year-old Fatimah Dawi, was discovered at 6:06 PM by rescue teams. Her body was successfully retrieved from the scene at 6:26 PM and transported to Miri Hospital for further action.
The incident, which occurred around 3:00 AM, involved two adjacent houses situated on the same plot of land, affecting a total of 12 individuals. Five victims lost their lives, including a 17-year-old male teenager found at 6:17 AM, a woman discovered at 10:53 AM, and two young girls whose bodies were located at 10:48 AM and 11:38 AM, respectively. Seven other individuals, aged between 14 and 60, survived the disaster.
The rescue operation, carried out amid heavy rain, involved 19 officers and 85 personnel from various agencies and departments, with assistance from an excavator. With the discovery of the final victim, the rescue operation has officially concluded.
