Malaysia and Egypt are going to work on building a strategic relationship between their two countries
According to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia and Egypt have decided to work on advancing their bilateral ties to the point of forming a strategic partnership soon. The prime minister states that both countries are committed to strengthening their bilateral ties in a variety of areas for their mutual benefit.
During a bilateral meeting at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace on Sunday, November 10, he stated, “To achieve this, Malaysia will host the next Joint Commission Meeting and Bilateral Consultation in 2025,” at a joint press conference with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt.Earlier, during his four-day official visit to Egypt, Anwar made a courtesy call to El-Sisi at the palace.
The two presidents held a four-eye meeting prior to the bilateral talks. Anwar claims that he and El-Sisi also decided to increase collaboration in the areas of higher education, cultural affairs, defense and security, agro-commodities, tourism, and commerce and investment.
According to him, both nations will build on each other’s advantages and investigate new opportunities in the manufacturing and semiconductor industries, the digital economy, the development of renewable energy infrastructure, and the transportation and maritime sectors. Since Malaysia has emerged as a major semiconductor hub in the region, we Malaysians are truly fortunate and should have the opportunity to collaborate in this field.
“Malaysia stated its willingness to collaborate closely with Egypt in order to advance Asean-Egyptian relations as the 2025 Asean chair. “Being a founding member of the African Union and playing an important role, Malaysia also encouraged Egypt to advance its engagement with ASEAN,” he said.
At the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 23, 2024, BRICS Leaders endorsed Malaysia in the Modalities of BRICS Partner Country Category. Anwar expressed hope to work closely with Egypt and other BRICS members to advance the Global South Agenda and work towards Malaysia’s full membership in BRICS. El-Sisi’s backing, he said, is essential to Malaysia’s bid to join BRICS as a full member.
Anwar asserts that Egypt has a long history of being one of the most important advocates for the global south and is known as a prominent voice for independence and neutrality. Furthermore, this aligns with the central position known as Asean. We not only interact and maintain friendships with all nations, but we also collaborate with them, particularly in the areas of trade and investment,” he continued. Bernama
