Donald Trump is expected to become the 47th president of the United States: US Media
Donald Trump is expected to become the 47th president of the United States, and the Republican Party has taken control of the US Senate following wins in West Virginia and Ohio.
Early on Wednesday, US networks predicted that the Republican Party would regain the majority of Senate seats, displacing the Democratic Party for the first time in four years.
Jim Justice decisively defeated Senator Joe Manchin, giving Republicans a one-seat win in West Virginia just after the votes closed.
Several US media sites predicted that incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown will lose to Republican Bernie Moreno in Ohio.
These two victories will give Republicans at least a 51-49 advantage in the Senate, and once the results of other close races are known, they could make further gains.
In the meantime, Rick Scott defeated a Democratic bid to win reelection in Florida, and Senator Ted Cruz won a seat in Texas.
Other states that the Republicans may be able to pick up include Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania.
Democrats and independent candidates presently possess 51 Senate seats, compared to 49 for Republicans. Republicans require at least one extra Senate seat to achieve a majority.
The GOP will gain a significant power base in Washington and play a key role in selecting the next president’s cabinet and, in the event of a vacancy, any justices of the Supreme Court.
Next week, there will be elections for Senate GOP leadership.
Predictions indicate that former US President Donald Trump will win the 2024 presidential contest, surpassing Vice President Kamala Harris. This is the most recent news.
