Emma Maembong announces her divorce

KUALA LUMPUR: “Yes, we are divorced and my idah period is over,” confirmed actress Emma Maembong, who shared that she and her ex-husband, Muhammad Shazli Azhar, separated amicably.

Despite knowing that her personal issues were a hot topic in gossip circles, Emma chose to remain silent to prevent further complications at that time. As a result, she continued to post photos with her ex-husband on social media, leading many to wonder about their relationship status.

“I tried to keep my personal matters private, even though I received numerous calls from media friends,” she explained. “The reason I still shared pictures with my ex-husband on Instagram was to protect our children’s feelings and ensure they were not affected by our separation. I want them to see that our family is still happy,” she told Harian Metro.

Emma declined to provide more details about the breakup, stating she did not consider it something worth discussing publicly. “For me, this breakup isn’t something to be proud of, which is why I chose to remain silent and not make any announcements.”

However, after receiving media inquiries, she felt it was time to inform the public to put an end to the speculation. “I admit this marriage hasn’t been an easy journey. There were many challenges to face,” she added.

Emma expressed gratitude for the positive relationship she maintains with her ex-husband, noting that both have accepted the divorce maturely. “Even though we are no longer together, we still have a good relationship. We accept this divorce with open hearts and see it as a chance to improve ourselves.”

“Our focus now is on raising our children with love. Even apart, we will continue to engage in family activities with our two sons,” she said.

Meanwhile, Shazli commented on the search for a soulmate, saying it is in God’s hands and he accepts what fate has in store. “We can only plan, but matters of marriage or death are determined by God. Allah is the best planner and knows what is best for us,” he stated.

Emma and Shazli were married on February 20, 2020, and have two sons together.
