Anwar delighted with Muhammad Yunus’s assurance to protect the rights of all Bangladeshi citizens
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is pleased with the assurance given by the Chief Advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, to protect and provide fair treatment to all citizens of Bangladesh, including minorities.
According to Berita Harian, he said he made a phone call to Muhammad last night to congratulate him and inquire about his well-being following his recent appointment as Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh.
He noted that Muhammad has a history of good relations with Malaysia.
“Therefore, I assure you of Malaysia’s readiness to assist Bangladesh in restoring peace and order towards the reconstruction of the country.
“Prof. Yunus (Muhammad) also invited me to make a short visit to Bangladesh in the near future to further strengthen the fraternal ties between the two countries,” he said in a post uploaded on Facebook today.
Last week, Muhammad, 84, who is also a Nobel Prize laureate, was sworn in to lead a transitional government consisting of 17 members in Bangladesh.
This occurred after weeks of protests that led to the fall of the Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The swearing-in ceremony for Muhammad and his team took place at the office of President Mohammed Shahabuddin in the capital, Dhaka.
