KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Department aims to plant 5,000 mangosteen trees in Putrajaya.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, stated that this initiative is in response to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call to replace every tree that must be cut down with 100 new trees.

During the Malaysia Greening Program held in Precinct 18, Putrajaya yesterday, Zaliha mentioned that 50 mangosteen trees have already been planted.

“We are in the campaign to plant 100 million trees from 2021 to 2025.

“Currently, we are focusing on planting mangosteen trees in Putrajaya,” she said.

According to Zaliha, such programs will benefit in making Putrajaya a greener place.

“This is the program we are implementing, and God willing, in time, Putrajaya will benefit not only from the mangosteen trees but also from the overall greening efforts,” she added.

On May 15, Anwar expressed the goal of replacing every tree that has to be cut down with 100 new trees that must be replanted.
