50 percent of public servants in Putrajaya struggle with obesity
KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty percent of public servants in Putrajaya suffer from obesity and overweight issues, according to Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
According to Berita Harian, he said that in light of this, public servants are encouraged to engage in various healthy activities to achieve better health.
“I have been informed that 50 percent of public servants, especially in Putrajaya, are dealing with obesity.
“It is therefore important for them to participate in healthy activities, including events like today’s run, which we highly encourage,” he said after joining the Car Free Day (CFD) program here today.
The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr. Zaliha Mustafa and Director General of Public Service (KPPA) Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
Mohd Zuki said that weekend running programs aimed at promoting health will continue in every ministry and government agency nationwide.
“Such runs are a testament to our efforts to encourage a healthy culture among public servants, in particular,” he said.
Asked about independence programs, Mohd Zuki mentioned that government agencies are currently preparing to celebrate the month following the Prime Minister’s campaign to wave the national flag last week.
“Everyone has taken the initiative to display the national flag and organize various programs for Independence Month, including patriotic events and poetry readings. We expect it to be bustling by August 31,” he said.
Today’s CFD, officiated by Fadillah, also featured the MAPPA Run, involving over 1,500 public servants and their families.
The CFD program, organized by Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), will be held on the fourth week of every month and is being reinstated after a six-year hiatus.
It aims to give residents the opportunity to engage in various healthy recreational activities such as walking and cycling.
During the CFD period, full road closures will be implemented at Dataran Putrajaya, from the Menara Prisma Junction to the Menara Tulus Junction.
