Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium enforces gender-segregated seating
PETALING JAYA: Starting with today’s Super League match between Terengganu FC and Negri Sembilan, the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Terengganu will implement gender-segregated seating to prevent mingling between male and female spectators.
Hishamuddin Abdul Karim, Terengganu Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman, announced this new seating arrangement, which will be in effect from July 30. He explained that the initiative was prompted by concerns raised during the recent FA Cup semi-final match between Terengganu FC and Selangor, where issues of intermingling were noted.
“Stadiums are open spaces, and women will still have access to all entrances and seating areas. However, this segregation aims to adhere to religious and shariah guidelines while minimizing interaction between genders during matches,” Hishamuddin stated.
In addition to the designated seating for women, the Terengganu Sports Complex and Terengganu FC management will also offer seating areas specifically for families.
