KUALA LUMPUR: “Since returning to Malaysia, I haven’t been able to sleep well because I am worried about the safety of my friends in Bangladesh.”

According to Berita Harian, this is the statement from Malaysian student Ahmad Wafiq Aqil Kamarul, 23, from Mymensingh Medical College. He was among the four students who managed to return to the country early on July 18.

However, as soon as he set foot in Malaysia, he struggled to sleep due to concerns about the safety of friends who are still in that country.

“I could only sleep for an hour a day because I was worried about my friends’ situation. I took a long time, sometimes until early morning, to get in touch with them due to phone and internet line restrictions.

“It is indeed difficult to contact them, and I have to wait until after 2 a.m. for a slightly better connection, but it is still intermittent with calls and internet disruptions,” he told BH today.

Ahmad Wafiq is a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Mymensingh Medical College, Bangladesh.

He added that he also took the initiative to update the list of students still there and assist the parents of students who are still trapped in the country.

“However, after several days of inadequate sleep, I was able to sleep well last night after being informed that all friends and other Malaysians would be evacuated today.”
