KEADILAN Sri Gading demands political recalibration amid Johor UMNO tensions

220

KUALA LUMPUR: The KEADILAN Sri Gading Branch, led by Branch Chief Naquib Roseli, convened a meeting on July 18, 2024.

KEADILAN Sri Gading extends a warm welcome and congratulations to former Parti Peribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sri Gading Division Secretary, Mazlan Bin Abdullah. Mazlan has joined KEADILAN, significantly impacting Bersatu’s Kampong Baru branch by bringing in 87 new members and successfully establishing the KEADILAN Kampong Baru branch.

While KEADILAN Sri Gading respects the spirit of solidarity among coalition parties in the Unity Government, it expresses concern over recent comments by YAB Johor Chief Minister, Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also the UMNO Johor Liaison Chairman, as well as other UMNO Johor leaders. KEADILAN Sri Gading believes that attempts by partner parties to challenge the parliamentary and state seats of coalition partners could lead to dissatisfaction within the coalition. The demands by UMNO Johor to reconsider UMNO’s position in the Unity Government due to the presence of DAP are deemed unreasonable. The question arises whether UMNO Johor’s leaders wish to see the government established by DYMM Yang Dipertuan Agong crumble before the end of its term.

The Johor State Government is urged to emulate the cooperative spirit of the federal Unity Government and initiate a new chapter to strengthen political relationships among coalition parties in Johor. This can start with fair distribution in municipal council appointments and village head positions. However, if UMNO Johor chooses to widen ideological and thought gaps, KEADILAN Sri Gading firmly stands ready to field candidates in N21 Parit Yaani and N22 Parit Raja state seats, while also defending the Sri Gading parliamentary seat currently held by Parti Amanah Negara.

For the record, based on data and analysis from the 15th General Election (GE15), should a state election occur soon, Pakatan Harapan is confident in its ability to take over the administration of the Johor state government by winning at least 33 state seats. Therefore, UMNO Johor is urged to reflect on their position and not to rest on their laurels from their previous state election victory.
