Cases of diesel diversion dropped 87% after the subsidy targeting, Armizan said

KUALA LUMPUR: The amount of misappropriation of diesel oil has shown a decrease of 87% after targeting the diesel subsidy for a period of 20 days before and after its implementation.

According to RTM, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali in his statement said the number of individuals who have been arrested and convicted of the case also decreased in the same period, from 40 people to just one.

“For the period from 20 May 2024 to 9 June 2024, the total number of cases that have been recorded is 65 cases with the seizure of 520,803 liters of diesel.

“While for the period from June 10, 2024 to June 30, 2024, which is 20 days after this subsidy targeting was implemented, the statistics show a drastic decrease with only 14 cases having been recorded involving a total seizure of 68,457 liters,” he said.

However, he has experienced an increase in cases involving the confiscation of RON95 petrol.

“There were 37 cases with confiscation of 17,064 liters for the period from 20 May 2024 to 9 June 2024, compared to 46 cases with confiscation of 14,011 liters after the implementation of diesel subsidy targeting.

“The number of arrests has increased from 10 people to 17 people in the same period,” he said.

According to Armizan, KPDN will continue to enhance enforcement actions and monitoring on the activities of misappropriation of controlled goods under OPS TIRIS 3.0 throughout the country in close cooperation with other enforcement agencies to ensure that security issues can be resolved comprehensively and effectively.
