Malaysia uses the Jordan route to send humanitarian aid to Gaza
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will use the King Hussein Bridge Crossing route that connects the West Bank with Jordan to send humanitarian aid to Gaza.
According to Sinar Harian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan explained that the only route to Gaza is still open after the Rafah Crossing was completely closed in early May.
“The delivery of aid after this, I think it is good that we do it through Jordan because they have diplomatic relations with Israel and the matter was discussed during my visit to Jordan during the day.
“The Jordanian government sends 500 containers every day through that door,” he said at a press conference after launching the Humanitarian Initiative for Palestine at Wisma Putra.
He said, the management of the delivery of humanitarian aid through Ops Ihsan.
“With the good relationship between Malaysia and Jordan, we (Wisma Putra) act as mediators to create non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and volunteers to send aid to Gaza,” he explained.
Mohamad said that so far the Palestinian People’s Humanitarian Trust Account (AAKRP) has received a total of RM98,828,028.83 in donations.
From the total donations received, amounting to RM34,992,378.10, AAKRP has channeled donations to international organizations under the United Nations (UN) such as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the Office for the Coordination Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The Ministry of Higher Education provides funding and living allowances for Palestinian students in Malaysia, NGOs under Ops Ihsan, the Red Crescent Society (PBSM) in Jordan, Egypt and Palestine as well as the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs for the annual maintenance of Al Masjid -Aqsa.
Meanwhile, approximately RM9 million will be channeled among others for cancer treatment for Palestinian patients, clean water supply in Gaza, improving sanitation management and air cleanliness, and upgrading medical equipment.
Meanwhile, Mohamad asserted that the United Nations (UNGA) which contributed the main fortune next September will be a stage for Malaysia to raise its voice in defense of Palestine and condemn Israel to stop attacks on the country.
“We want the UN Security Council resolution, the interim judgment by the International Court of Justice to be enforced and the three-phase ceasefire plan by the United States and two other countries accepted by all Zionist parties.
“We were told that Hamas accepted this plan but rejected Israel.
“They are always looking for excuse after excuse to fight and kill Palestinians,” he said.
