Melaka: The 52nd anniversary celebration of the establishment of the People’s Volunteer Corps Malaysia (RELA) was inaugurated with enthusiasm in Melaka, graced by YB Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Bin Nasarah, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. In his inaugural address, YB Deputy Minister highlighted RELA’s crucial role in advancing Malaysia’s MADANI concept, particularly in welfare and humanitarian aspects.

 

Emphasizing RELA’s motto “Loyal in Service,” he urged all RELA members to remain spirited and continually strive towards excellence in delivering top-notch services to the people. With nearly 150,000 members, RELA plays a pivotal role in safeguarding national security through various tasks including border control, community patrols, and perimeter security assignments.

In 2024, RELA has reinforced training for its officers and members, including specialized programs such as RELA Armament Mechanic (ARMECH), RELA Marksman Team (RMT), RELA Perimeter Control (RPC), and RELA Traffic Trainer (RTT), aimed at enhancing their capabilities in executing duties effectively.

 

RELA Service Assistance Program (KBR) and Strengthening of RELA Youth Squad (SMR)

RELA’s commitment to its members is evident through the RELA Service Assistance Program (KBR), which successfully renovated 203 homes by June 2024, targeting at least 314 homes for RELA members nationwide this year. Additionally, 593 welfare visits have been conducted to support RELA members across Malaysia.

RELA remains proactive in empowering its Youth Squad (SMR) through 42 nationwide programs. As of June 2024, 1,548 RELA Student Members (RELASIS) have been registered, with the symbolic handing over of the Letter of Intent for the establishment of RELASIS at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) by the Director-General of RELA to Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor.

 

 

Commitment to the Future of RELA

Datuk Yahya Bin Sulaiman, Director-General of RELA, expressed his aspiration to rejuvenate and strengthen RELA to maintain its high standing and relevance in the future. This includes organizing 751 community cleanup activities nationwide, spanning various locations and reinforcing RELA’s image as a community support pillar.
