KUALA LUMPUR: Since yesterday, there has been an ongoing investigation by police into the distribution of explicit images on the Telegram programme that appear to depict damage to the body of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, a child with autism.

Section 203A of the Penal Code for information disclosure, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972 are the legal bases under which the inquiry is being carried out, according to Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

“Content classified under the Official Secrets Act of 1972 should not be shared by the public as this could interfere with the legal proceedings of both inquiry and prosecution.

He informed Bernama today that “anyone found sharing the content will face legal action.”

ACP Shahrulnizam Ja’afar, the chief of Petaling Jaya District Police, stated that a senior police official made a report about the images’ dissemination at 12:15 p.m. today.

The child’s murder investigation files previously went viral on the same app.

One day after Zayn Rayyan was reported missing, on December 6, 2018, his corpse was discovered at 10 p.m. in a stream close to his Idaman Damansara Damai Apartments home.

Ismanira Abdul Manaf and Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, Zayn Rayyan’s parents, entered a not guilty plea to accusations of maltreatment that most likely resulted in the child suffering bodily damage on June 13 at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court. – Bernama
