KUALA LUMPUR: The cops have rescued a 24-year-old Indonesian maid who had been allegedly beaten by her employer.

Aside from being abused, it is alleged she has not received her salary in the last six months.

At around 6.15 p.m. on Thursday, the Bukit Aman CID Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) division (D3) raided a residence in Selayang and rescued the victim.

Senior Asst Comm Soffian Santong, the division’s main assistant director, said the police raided the semi-detached property as part of Operation Pintas.

“We detained the employer, a 39-year-old woman.”

“The suspect, who works as an accountant, was brought to the Gombak district police headquarters for an investigation under Section 12 of the Atipsom Act,” according to what he told me.

Initial inquiries found that the maid had been working at the house for around six months.

“We suspect she was abused by her boss, who slapped and struck her with a cane.

“She had injuries, including on her hands and face,” he said.

SAC Soffian stated that the maid was promised a monthly wage of RM1,400, but she has not been paid since she started working there.
