A shelter camp in Gaza donated by Malaysians was ‘shot’ by Israel
KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing attacks of the Zionist regime in Gaza saw a shelter camp built by Malaysians in An Nusairat bombed on June 11, killing one Palestinian woman and injuring five others.
Berita Harian reported, Friendship Shelter Camp 2, which was developed and managed by Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) and the contribution of Econsave Supermarket, housed 58 tents occupied by 95 families of Gaza war refugees.
General Manager of Econsave Cash And Carry Supermarket, Mas Imran Adam, said the incident resulted in most of the tents being destroyed while some were torn, leaking and damaged.
“Based on the survey and investigation by the Manager of MyCARE Gaza, Dr Ziad Sahida, not only the tent was burnt but also other necessities such as food, blankets and clothes were also destroyed.
“Also targeted by the Zionist army are facilities such as water tanks, wells, toilets, ditches and lights,” he said today.
Mas Imran said that until now the residents are still living in the shelter camp even though it has been bombed and many basic facilities have been damaged.
He said, Econsave contributed 30 tents at a cost of RM120,000 including mattresses, pillows and blankets while the rest of the tents and facilities were donated by Malaysians.
According to him, his party also made an error when he found out that the basic infrastructure in the tent area, including the prayer hall, toilets, lights and sewers and sewage at a cost of RM250,000 was also destroyed.
“What is sad is that there are many families who are still living and continuing to live in this shelter camp that was just opened on May 27.
“They have nowhere to go after their homes were destroyed by Israeli bombing.
“Urgent needs are still needed such as food, drink and temporary accommodation for them to continue their lives. The situation has worsened with the relentless attacks of the zionist regime and the closure of the Rafah border.
“Food and drinks are very limited and the prices of all goods are increasing,” he said.
