KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 17: The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) detained 190 foreign nationals and two local men during a raid on an entertainment centre in Pudu here early this morning following public complaints about disturbances to public order.

JIM Deputy Director-General (Enforcement) Datuk Basri Othman said the detained foreign nationals comprised 99 men and 91 women aged between 20 and 41.

He said 188 of them were Indonesian nationals, while the remaining two were from Bangladesh and India, respectively.

The two local men detained were believed to be the employer and caretaker of the entertainment premises, located approximately 10 metres from a mosque.

“There were several rooms inside the entertainment centre used for entertainment activities, and during the raid, between 50 and 60 people were found inside each of the rooms,” he told reporters after the operation here today.

Basri said the immigration offences detected included overstaying and failing to possess valid travel documents.

He said all those detained were taken to an immigration detention depot for documentation and further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for offences involving the absence of valid travel documents and overstaying.

Meanwhile, Bernama, which accompanied enforcement officers during the raid, observed white powder suspected to be drugs on several plates, as well as condoms inside rooms used for entertainment activities.

Commenting on the discovery, Basri said authorities could not rule out the possibility of immoral activities taking place at the premises, adding that further investigations would be conducted.
