Jalan Kuching Crash: BYD Driver to Be Charged Tomorrow Over Death of Five-Year-Old Girl
KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a BYD electric vehicle believed to have been involved in an accident that claimed the life of a five-year-old girl along Jalan Kuching here last Saturday will be charged at the Jalan Duta Traffic Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 24-year-old man was arrested at a private hospital in Damansara, Petaling Jaya, on Wednesday after being discharged.
“The man was subsequently taken to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD), where he was placed in a lock-up at approximately 12.30pm.
“The investigation papers were referred to the Director of Prosecution at 3pm, and following discussions, the prosecution agreed to charge the driver at the Jalan Duta Traffic Magistrate’s Court at 9am on Thursday,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mohd Zamzuri said the suspect would face three charges under Sections 41(1), 42(1) and 52(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In the incident, which occurred at 3.44pm, the BYD Seal was believed to have collided with the rear of a Perodua Bezza travelling in slow-moving traffic from the city centre towards Segambut.
The collision also involved a motorcycle before the Perodua Bezza spun into the right lane and struck three other vehicles – a Nissan Almera, Toyota Alphard and Perodua Myvi.
As a result of the accident, a five-year-old passenger in the Perodua Bezza, Asiah Ahmad Syahir, sustained severe head injuries and was later pronounced dead at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
The 30-year-old Perodua Bezza driver suffered injuries to his right hand, while the 33-year-old rider of a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle sustained head injuries.
