Lorry Crashes into 11 Vehicles: Driver Tests Positive for Drugs
SHAH ALAM: Brake problems and a driver who tested positive for amphetamine or methamphetamine are the focus of investigations into an accident involving a 10-tonne lorry that crashed into 11 vehicles at the Alam Budiman traffic light junction along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari here two days ago.
The 51-year-old lorry driver was arrested after a urine screening test returned a positive result for drugs.
Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said the accident, which occurred at approximately 4.20 pm, was believed to have been caused by brake problems as the lorry travelled downhill from Puncak Perdana towards Puncak Alam.
The lorry subsequently veered into the opposite lane before crashing into 11 vehicles that had stopped at the traffic lights.
The accident left a 58-year-old Subaru XV driver with serious head injuries. He is receiving treatment in the red zone of Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Puncak Alam.
“His 53-year-old wife and 17-year-old grandson, who were travelling in the same vehicle, are also receiving treatment at the hospital and are in stable condition.
“Another victim, a 29-year-old Perodua Myvi driver, sustained bodily injuries and is in stable condition,” he said yesterday.
Sarudin said the case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
