KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and China expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and emphasized the need to protect civilians in accordance with international law.
Bernama reports, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and protection for aid and medical workers.
In a joint statement, both sides affirmed the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to an independent Palestinian state.
“Malaysia and China urge the United Nations (UN) Security Council to reconsider Palestine’s application for full membership, in line with Resolution A/RES/ES-10/23 adopted by the UN General Assembly on 10 May 2024.
“Both countries expressed full support for resuming the political settlement process based on the two-state solution and promoting a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue at the earliest possible date,” according to the statement.
