SHAH ALAM: Parents in Selangor have been urged to comply with the directive to close all schools today due to the haze and await official announcements from their respective schools regarding learning arrangements.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said parental cooperation was crucial to ensuring compliance with directives issued through circulars from the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

He said the State Government would continue monitoring the situation from time to time based on the latest developments.

“The State Government will also continue seeking guidance from the Ministry of Education Malaysia and relevant federal departments or agencies to facilitate appropriate assistance for teachers, students and parents,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, all schools under the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), as well as educational institutions under JAIS throughout Selangor, were ordered to close from today until further notice due to the haze.

In a statement, JPNS said the affected schools must implement home-based teaching and learning (PdPR), while teachers and support staff (AKP) have been instructed to work from home, subject to current directives and operational requirements.

The closures followed a decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, who expressed concern over the haze situation and emphasised the importance of protecting students’ safety and health.

Following this, the MOE announced the closure of educational institutions in affected areas to reduce the risk of students and school staff being exposed to air pollution.
