‘I Will Remain in My Post Until Najib Returns Home’ – Anthony Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: Anthony Loke Siew Fook submitted his resignation letter as Transport Minister to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

Loke said the Prime Minister had asked him to remain in the post for a certain period.

However, when asked how long he would continue serving, he said his resignation would automatically take effect once Najib is released.

“The timeframe is until Najib returns home. Once that happens, my resignation will take effect,” he told reporters at the launch of Malaysia Maritime Week 2026 here today.

Last week, Loke was reported to have offered his resignation as Transport Minister following the decision on Najib’s conditional pardon.

The decision was made following an emergency meeting of the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC), which lasted nearly three hours after beginning at 3pm.

According to Loke, he personally handed his resignation letter to Anwar after holding discussions with him.

“During the discussion, Anwar advised me to continue carrying out my duties for the time being. He will make a decision, but I told him that there also needs to be a timeframe,” he said.
