13-Year-Old Girl Drowns at Lata Tujuh

PASIR PUTEH: A 13-year-old girl drowned at the Lata Tujuh waterfall here yesterday afternoon.

Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Azhar Elmi Mustofar said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.33pm.

He said firefighters took about 15 minutes to locate and recover the victim, who was from Melor.

“The victim was found following a search and diving operation by rescuers using a skin-diving technique and a grappling iron.

“The victim’s body was recovered after it became caught on the grappling iron, and she was pronounced dead by personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH),” he said when contacted.

Azhar said the search area measured approximately 18 metres by 24 metres, with the victim found at a depth of more than three metres.

He said the operation involved 10 officers and personnel, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive vehicle from the Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Station.

The operation also involved personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
