Moon of Compassion 2026 Fosters Spirit of Compassion, Community and Togetherness

PETALING JAYA: More than 200 people from diverse cultural and community backgrounds gathered at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort to celebrate the Moon of Compassion 2026 Lantern Festival.

Chairman of the Dei Mou Ciu Gwong Gung (DMCGG) Devotees Association, Damien Foo, said the celebration brought together participants, particularly families, through programmes centred on cultural traditions, inclusive community activities and the spirit of giving.

“We have always believed that unity in diversity is our greatest strength as a multiracial nation.

“Today’s celebration demonstrates that when we are willing to share our blessings, a celebration becomes far more meaningful to the community,” he said during his opening speech here yesterday.

Damien, who is also the event organiser, said each activity was designed to reflect the association’s commitment to using tradition as a bridge to foster unity.

Themed “Sharing Light, Sharing Love”, the event also featured a food distribution programme for those in need.

“We do not need to share the same beliefs to understand the meaning of fellowship, gratitude and the spirit of helping one another.

“Instead, these are universal values that should bring us together through genuine and sincere compassion,” he said.

He explained that the association’s charitable initiatives and traditional celebrations are rooted in the belief that kindness can be cultivated regardless of one’s background.

“Through this platform, we are determined to encourage more young people to gain first-hand experience in volunteerism.

“When young people get involved on the ground, they develop empathy, a sense of responsibility and an understanding of what it truly means to contribute to society,” he said.

Damien said the strategic initiative demonstrated the association’s commitment to fostering a progressive, resilient and compassionate community.
