YANIS Launches RM5 Million Fundraising Campaign to Empower Persons with Disabilities in Selangor
PETALING JAYA: Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS) has taken a strategic step towards strengthening the welfare of persons with disabilities (OKU) through the launch of a large-scale fundraising campaign targeting RM5 million.
The year-long sustainable initiative is being carried out under the patronage of YANIS Royal Patron, Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, with the aim of expanding social support networks and inclusive services across the state.
Selangor State Executive Councillor for Women’s Development and Social Welfare Anfaal Saari said the foundation’s unconventional approach allows its management to move more swiftly than the government, which focuses more on macro-level policymaking and financial assistance.
“This approach enables us to leverage private-sector business models to meet the unique needs of each strategic partner, while translating the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor’s royal vision into tangible impact on the ground,” she said in a statement here today.
Earlier, the campaign was announced in conjunction with the YANIS Gala Dinner 2026, themed “Satu Malam, Sejuta Makna” (One Night, A Million Meanings), held at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya. The event was also graced by the presence of Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
Elaborating, Anfaal, who is also YANIS chairman, said the foundation had recorded encouraging achievements after utilising nearly RM2.79 million in allocations to assist more than 3,000 recipients last year.
She added that funds raised through the new campaign would be channelled directly into key programmes, including Saringan YANIS, Pusat Anak Istimewa Selangor (ANIS), the Independent Living Support Centre (ILSC), and Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa Selangor (BRAIS).
“Part of the allocation will also be focused on strengthening the Inclusive Development Programme (IDP) and Cerebral Palsy Care Unit (CPCU), as the foundation prepares to achieve social enterprise status and tax-exempt status by 2027.
“In terms of governance, YANIS, which operates as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLBG), remains committed to maintaining a high level of transparency, with its official financial records made publicly accessible through the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) portal,” she said.
Meanwhile, YANIS Chief Executive Officer Kamarul Hisham Yeop Hashim said the foundation’s strategic plans are now aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), particularly in the areas of education, employment and social inclusion.
The foundation is now welcoming active participation from corporations and the public to explore its Corporate Strategic Partnership Packages as well as collaborations based on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles.
