Senior Student Remanded for Six Days to Assist Investigation into SMK Za’ba Student’s Death

PETALING JAYA: A Form Four male student has been remanded for six days to assist investigations into the death of a student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Za’ba in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the remand application in connection with the case was heard at the Kuala Pilah Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam.

“The six-day remand begins today (yesterday),” he said.

Alzafny said the cause of death of Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril has yet to be determined following a post-mortem examination conducted at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (HTJ).

He said the post-mortem was carried out from 10.30am to 3pm yesterday by HTJ forensic pathologist Dr Akma Nurain Fairuz Mahamad Arif.

“Based on the post-mortem findings, the cause of death cannot be determined at this time, and the hospital is still awaiting the results of further tests,” he said.

Alzafny said the incident occurred at about 8pm before the victim was taken to Kuala Pilah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Following the incident, police immediately launched an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code and arrested a 16-year-old male student.

“Police are also examining all facts and evidence to determine the actual cause and motive behind the incident,” he said.

Earlier, Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril, 14, was found unconscious at the SMK Za’ba hostel and taken to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital (HTAN), where he was pronounced dead on the night of the incident.

Meanwhile, Alzafny advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information, as doing so could affect the investigation and the privacy of the families involved.

“Police take seriously any act of violence involving students, particularly incidents that result in the loss of life,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to come forward to assist the investigation.

“The police’s priority is to ensure that the investigation is conducted professionally, thoroughly and based on evidence to ensure justice for all parties,” he said.
