Four Killed After Perodua Viva Crashes Into Lorry

KOTA KINABALU: Four men were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a lorry parked on the roadside near Taman Jaya Diri, Jalan Sepanggar, here early Sunday morning.

In the incident, which occurred at about 2.30am, all four victims were reported to have died at the scene.

Acting Chief of the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Mohd Hannis Moktar, said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 2.37am.

He said six firefighters were dispatched to the scene, located about 20 kilometres from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station.

“Upon arrival, we found that the accident involved a Perodua Viva that had skidded off the road before crashing into a five-tonne lorry parked on the roadside.

“Four victims were found trapped inside the Perodua Viva, and firefighters immediately worked to extricate them using specialised equipment,” he said in a statement.

He said all four victims were successfully removed from the vehicle by the firefighters.

“All the victims were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Their bodies were subsequently handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

Mohd Hannis said the operation ended at 3.55am after firefighters ensured there were no other hazards at the scene.
