No Decision Yet on Political Cooperation in Melaka – PM

HANGZHOU, China: No decision has been made so far regarding political cooperation ahead of the Melaka state election, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said responsibility for discussions on the matter had been entrusted to PH Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“I have tasked Amirudin Shari with holding discussions. We should not be arrogant. If someone says they are willing to discuss, then we discuss. That is how politics works.

“Some people say there should be no discussions and that even holding talks is wrong. Whether to agree or disagree is up to the committee (PH Election Committee),” he told Malaysian media here.

The Prime Minister, who is on a three-day working visit to China, was travelling to Hangzhou by high-speed train.

On discussions over cooperation with political parties ahead of the Melaka state election, Anwar, who is also PKR president, confirmed that talks had also been held with Bersatu.

“We have also held discussions with Bersatu, but no decision has been made yet. I leave it to the committee. I am focusing on governing the country,” he said.

Yesterday, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly, effective today.

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly’s term is due to end on Dec 27.
