No Compromise on Corruption in Improving Licensing Requirements for Beauty, Wellness Centres – Hannah Yeoh

PUTRAJAYA: The process of improving licensing requirements for beauty and wellness centres, including spas and massage establishments in Kuala Lumpur, must be carried out transparently without leaving room for corruption or illicit payments.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said licensing requirements should also be easier for operators to understand, while standards and integrity must continue to be upheld.

“The process must be clean, and there must be no room for corruption or illicit payments,” she said in a social media post on Monday.

Earlier, Hannah held discussions with Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing on improving licensing requirements for beauty and wellness centres, including spas and massage establishments in Kuala Lumpur.

Hannah said she proposed that the next coordination meeting be jointly chaired by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Secretary-General Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot.

The coordination committee will include Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) Director-General Mohammad Faisal Abu Suaib Khan, Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban and other relevant agencies.

Hannah said the involvement of various agencies was aimed at ensuring that issues involving licensing, enforcement, workforce and industry requirements could be addressed comprehensively.

She said ITC’s expertise was also important as Kuala Lumpur receives tourists from around the world, particularly Muslim travellers.

“That is why ITC’s expertise is important to ensure that the industry also takes into account the needs of the Muslim-friendly tourism market,” she said.

Hannah added that the aim was to facilitate legitimate businesses while ensuring that government agencies work together to safeguard the image of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia.
