Three Motorcyclists Killed, Nine Injured in 15-Vehicle Crash

IPOH: Three motorcyclists were killed and nine others injured in a horrific crash involving 12 motorcycles and three cars along Jalan Jelapang-Ampang here early this morning.

Ipoh District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police received information about the incident from members of the public at 3.35am.

He said preliminary investigations found that all 15 vehicles involved were travelling from Meru towards Tambun before the crash occurred.

“The incident resulted in two motorcyclists, aged 19 and 20, being killed at the scene.

“Another 19-year-old motorcyclist died while receiving treatment at the Red Zone of the Emergency and Trauma Department at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).

“Nine other motorcyclists, aged between 19 and 25, who sustained injuries were taken to the same hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement today.

“The three drivers of the cars involved did not sustain any injuries,” he added.

Muhammad Najib said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
