2026 National Day Celebration Runs Smoothly, Over 100,000 Attend – Fahmi
PUTRAJAYA: The 2026 National Day celebration proceeded smoothly with over 100,000 people attending to enliven the event, surpassing the initial target of 80,000, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also Chairman of the Main Committee for the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebration, said all the planned arrangements went well according to schedule, aside from the very favourable weather throughout the celebration.
“Alhamdulillah, all our planning went well. In conjunction with the National Day celebration, we witnessed more than 100,000 people in attendance without any untoward incidents.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public who came, some from Sandakan, some from Johor Bahru, some from Jeli.
“Many came from all over the country to jointly celebrate this very meaningful day, a truly sacred date, the 2026 National Day celebration, and today’s atmosphere was very good,” he told reporters after the 2026 National Day celebration here today.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah also graced the celebration, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Cabinet Ministers.
Fahmi said the smooth running of the celebration was the result of cooperation from all parties, including the Department of Environment (DOE), the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
“They have been monitoring and they have also been prepared to carry out cloud seeding,” he said.
He said members of the public still in Putrajaya also had the opportunity to enjoy various activities after the official National Day ceremony, including viewing the country’s defence assets displayed at Anjung Floria and joining the Riuh Merdeka event at the New Millennium Monument.
“And there are many food trucks that have been provided. Those who attended can also use this opportunity for leisure activities with their families,” he said.
Fahmi expressed hope that the 2026 National Day celebration would continue to ignite the people’s love for the country and homeland.
“Together, let us defend unity; together, let us defend our beloved Malaysia,” he said.
In line with the 2026 HKHM theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati” (Malaysia MADANI: Wellbeing Enjoyed), this year’s celebration emphasises the government’s ongoing commitment to building a developed, harmonious, and prosperous nation regardless of background.
This year’s parade and procession involved 76 contingents, 22 brass bands, and 11 decorated vehicles, with the participation of 10,819 participants from various government agencies, security forces, uniformed bodies, government-linked companies (GLCs), school students, higher education institutions, and civil society representatives.
For the very first time, the celebration also featured the Johor State Royal Guard, the 2027 SEA Games contingent, and the Orange Economic Sustainability cluster contingent.
The celebration was also enlivened by the “Gema Inovasi MADANI” (MADANI Innovation Echo) percussion performance, combining Rebana Inovasi, Kompang Inovasi, and various other traditional musical instruments, involving 150 percussion participants and 1,500 human graphic participants to reflect the diversity of the nation’s artistic and cultural heritage.
The highlight of the celebration was also graced by a flypast of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters from the Royal Malaysian Air Force, while the closing performance, “Rentak MADANI, Paluan Tradisi” (MADANI Rhythm, Traditional Beats), brought together 2,350 participants.
