Haze: Two More Areas Record Hazardous API Levels After Serian – APIMS

KUCHING: The areas of Serian, Samarahan and Kuching recorded Air Pollution Index (API) readings at hazardous levels as of 12.30 pm on Sunday.

According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the API reading at the Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) monitoring station reached 412, followed by Samarahan (332) and Kuching (304).

In addition, Sri Aman recorded an API reading at a very unhealthy level of 228.

Areas that recorded unhealthy API readings include Sarikei (197), Sibu (190), Bintulu (183), Mukah (176), Samalaju (175), Kapit (161), Miri (159) and the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Miri (156).

API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy), while API readings exceeding 300 are categorised as hazardous.

API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
