Melaka PRN: ‘I Don’t Know Whether UMNO Is Strong or Not’ – Hadi Awang

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS is still discussing the best political approach for the Melaka State Election (PRN), including assessing the strength of UMNO in the state.

Its President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said, PAS’s strategy is flexible and may differ according to the political scenario in each state.

“Melaka, I don’t know whether UMNO is strong or not. This we are discussing, still discussing. Terengganu and Kelantan have their own approaches. Don’t worry,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the PAS Melaka Charity Dinner in Ayer Keroh, yesterday.

Elaborating further, Abdul Hadi said, PAS carries the agenda of ummah unity to strengthen Malay-Islamic political dominance together with non-Muslim communities that are not extreme.

In the same speech, he recalled PAS’s approach in the Johor PRN by describing the party as a “goalkeeper” that helped UMNO secure victory.

According to him, PAS supporters at that time were instructed to vote for the party’s candidates, as well as MCA or MIC in areas they did not contest.

“Eventually UMNO won big and we got nothing. But it’s okay because we were guarding the goal. Let UMNO score the goals in Johor,” he said again.

For Negeri Sembilan, Abdul Hadi described PAS as a “striker” in an effort to compete against DAP and its allied parties.

He also asked PAS members to abide by any political decisions that will be determined by the leadership through syura and party meetings.

According to him, every decision that has been finalised must be implemented by all PAS members and machinery.
