PH backed Joohari Ariffin in the Sungai Bakap by election
PETALING JAYA: Former director of the Aminuddin Baki North Branch Institute, Joohari Ariffin was announced as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election.
FMT reports, Joohari, 60, a native of Sungai Bakap was announced as a unity candidate by PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli in a ceremony in Nibong Tebal tonight.

“Our candidate is approved by the entire leadership,” said Rafizi who is also the unity election director.
In the event, Joohari was also required to sign an undertaking asking him to declare his assets before nomination.
FMT previously reported that PKR representing PH will nominate a native of Sungai Bakap with a religious and professional background to wrest the state assembly from Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Joohari became the main choice given his background as a member of the Malaysian Islamic Youth (Abim).
The Sungai Bakap seat is vacant following the death of its incumbent from PAS, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
In the last PRN, Zamri won with a majority of 1,563 votes defeating Penang PKR Woman Leader Nurhidayah Che Rose.
The Election Commission set the Sungai Bakap by-election on July 6 with June 22 as the nomination date.
