PKR 2026 Congress a Testing Ground for Machinery Facing Melaka PRN – Adam Adli

MELAKA: The PKR National Congress 2026, scheduled to take place this weekend, is not merely to fulfil the party’s constitutional requirements, but will also serve as a platform to test and assess the level of preparedness of the machinery for the upcoming Melaka State Election (PRN).

Acting Chairman of the PKR Melaka State Leadership Council, Adam Adli Abd Halim said, the current dynamic political developments demand that the party conduct an in-depth reflection on the strength and readiness of its machinery at every level.

He said, this is among the main focuses brought by the Melaka delegation to this congress, in addition to efforts to re-strengthen the spirit of struggle in line with the theme “Revitalising Reform, Building MADANI”.

“The reality is, we are facing the Melaka PRN, so in this congress we will test and reflect on the readiness of the party machinery in facing the upcoming election,” he told Bernama here, recently.

The mandate of the Melaka State Government will expire on December 31 this year, thus paving the way for the PRN to be held.

In the last PRN, Barisan Nasional (BN) formed the state government after securing 21 out of the total 28 seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) controlled five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) two seats.

Adam Adli, who is also Deputy Minister of Higher Education, said, the hosting of the congress in Melaka should be fully utilised as a space to debate ideas and provide a re-reflection on the party’s position to ensure PKR remains relevant in the country’s political landscape.

Elaborating further, he said, the experience from the previous Johor and Negeri Sembilan PRNs should provide a fresh boost of spirit and motivation to every member to be more prepared to face increasingly complex political challenges.

He said, election strategies, strengthening community agendas and approaches to win back public support are among the important narratives that need to be strengthened in efforts to fortify the party.

“We cannot build the party’s strength without understanding what the community wants and desires,” he said.

Meanwhile, Adam Adli said, PKR Wanita and the Youth Wing (AMK) also have important roles in preparations for the election as both wings are the main drivers closest to the community.

In that regard, he wants the voices, views and ideas from both party wings to continue to be empowered and mainstreamed in determining PKR’s strategic direction.

He also emphasised that the challenge in the upcoming election is not only about the number of seats that can be won, but encompasses the party’s ability to formulate political strategies more effectively and maturely.

He said, PKR Melaka needs to ensure that the congress produces a collective awareness among members that they now carry a great trust to translate the people’s hopes through governance with integrity.

Melaka has been chosen as the host for the PKR National Congress 2026, which will take place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Ayer Keroh, from August 13 to 16 this year.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR President, is scheduled to officiate the congress on August 15.
