Support Anwar in Rehabilitating and Restoring TH’s Dignity, Stop Playing Politics – Analyst
KUALA LUMPUR: All parties should support the efforts of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to restore the image, administrative operations and re-elevate the status of Tabung Haji (TH) as a symbol of Malay-Islamic economic strength, given that its position is often associated with the interests of the ummah and the integrity of the country’s financial management.
At the same time, Senior Lecturer at the School of International Studies (SoIS), College of Law, Government and International Studies (COLGIS), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Misrinah Misban said, interested parties should also stop politicising the TH issue to gain attention and making unconstructive statements in order to help the government resolve the crisis.
“Regardless of any political party, authorities such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) are conducting investigations to identify who the perpetrators of abuse of power in TH are, now and previously, in order to seek justice for millions of TH depositors.
“By doing so, the government has given a warning to the current and future leadership of TH not to use the institution for personal gain, and such efforts will deter thieves from robbing the nation’s assets,” she explained today.
Previously, Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said, the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report regarding the investigation into TH’s management and operations for the period 2014 to 2020 has no connection with UMNO as a whole, but only involves certain individuals who are alleged to have made wrong decisions.
Hamzah said, any issues or abuse of power arising from the report should not be used to politicise or tarnish the image of the party.
Commenting further, Misrinah said, what is happening will cause Muslims in this country to be more confident in making their savings in TH because the TH management always manages the institution according to good governance.
