Malaysian Man Arrested for Smuggling Over 10kg of Drugs into Singapore

SINGAPORE: A Malaysian man was arrested after attempting to smuggle 8.6 kilograms (kg) of cannabis and 1.6kg of methamphetamine hidden in the boot of a car heading to Singapore, reported news portal Mothership.

The 22‑year‑old suspect was detained when entering the Woodlands Checkpoint in a vehicle with Malaysian registration plates.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said its officers directed the suspect’s car for inspection before discovering a box containing two packages of suspected drugs.

Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers were immediately informed of the discovery, while further checks found more drugs in the car boot.

The total drug seizure is estimated to be worth over S$361,000 (RM1.2 million) and could supply approximately 2,132 addicts for a week.

Further investigations are ongoing, according to the CNB.

Individuals who import or export more than 250 grams of methamphetamine or 500 grams of cannabis could face the death penalty in Singapore.
