KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of a Malaysian who was fatally stabbed while trying to break up a fight in an incident in South Korea have been washed, shrouded and prayed over, and are now in Incheon before being brought home.

Ain Sephia Ahmad Ros, 25, the younger sister of the deceased Ahmad Shah, 26, said she was informed that her brother’s body is already in Incheon near Incheon International Airport for documentation purposes.

“I was informed that the body has been washed and shrouded. I also understand that my brother’s body is near the airport.

“So far, we are waiting for the related documentation to be completed by our embassy there. The purchase of tickets is being looked into… if possible, we want to expedite it.

“Insya-Allah, the flight schedule, if possible, (depart for Malaysia) either tonight or early tomorrow morning. We will inform further developments later,” she said when contacted today.

She said the family is waiting for the documentation process to be completed by the Malaysian Embassy there, including matters involving the purchase of flight tickets.

Last night, the Malaysian Embassy in Seoul said it was making efforts to provide the necessary assistance to the family members of the Malaysian. Wisma Putra in its report stated that the embassy has contacted the victim’s family and is extending consular assistance, including facilitating documentation matters, funeral arrangements and the repatriation of the remains back to the homeland.

Ahmad Shah, a manufacturing sector worker, was confirmed dead at a hospital in Eumseong district, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea, after suffering severe injuries to his abdomen, having been stabbed with a knife while trying to break up a fight.

He, who had lived there since 2019, came to the scene of the fight with his wife from their residence after his friend, also a Malaysian, contacted him for help.

It is understood that the suspect who stabbed him, as well as several other individuals involved in the fight, are also Malaysians.

The main suspect and other individuals involved are now being detained to assist with investigations.
