KUALA LUMPUR: Four young national athletes have achieved a proud accomplishment by successfully qualifying for the 2026 World Athletics Under-20 (U-20) Championships in Oregon, United States, from 5 to 9 August.

The four athletes are Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee, Muhamad Airiel Iskandar Rusli, Avinaash Nair Sathiseelan, and Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal Azira.

They secured their places after surpassing the Ranking Qualification Standard (RQS) set by World Athletics.

This participation is seen as another positive sign for the development of the country’s athletics development programme, which has succeeded in producing more young athletes with the potential to compete at the international level.

Danish and Airiel are the main hopes in the men’s 100 metres event, while Avinaash will carry the challenge in the men’s 400 metres hurdles.

Izzatul Musfirah will compete in the women’s 100 metres and she is also among the key members of the women’s 4×100 metres quartet currently preparing for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.

The championships in Oregon serve as the best platform for them to test their abilities against the world’s best junior athletes, while also gaining valuable experience that can help in their respective career development.
