‘Resign If You Attack Unity Government In State Polls’ – Anwar
IPOH: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned any ministers, deputy ministers and holders of positions in government agencies not to use their positions to attack Federal Government allies while campaigning in the State Election.
He said any parties involved who do so will be asked to step down from their positions.
“If he holds a position from the federal government, he cannot attack, turning this into a political arena to oppose, because he must maintain discipline.
“If he chooses to do so, he must resign from his position. We must ensure that this is not violated because if there is a violation, I will ask them to resign,” he said in a press conference after attending the Madani Kita Programme at the Taman Perpaduan Community Hall here today.
Anwar said the matter was decided after he contacted Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof yesterday.
“We remind the candidates, especially those holding positions as ministers, deputy ministers or holders of any agency positions, that they can contest on state issues.
“So far, we have asked them to control themselves so that our relationship at the federal level remains good, so that work can be carried out.
“Let us control it if there are contests at the state level,” he said.
