PUTRAJAYA: Muar Member of Parliament, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman hopes that justice and truth will be on his side as the final appeal decision on his acquittal from four criminal charges approaches.
Syed Saddiq arrived at the Palace of Justice here at approximately 8.55 am dressed in a dark black suit.
When met before entering the courtroom, the former Youth and Sports Minister only delivered a brief statement while asking the public to pray for him.
“I only hope for justice and truth. Pray for me,” he said.
Before entering the courtroom, Syed Saddiq had the opportunity to shake hands with his parents, Syed Abdul Rahman Syed Abdullah Al-Sagoff and Sharifah Mahani Syed Abdul Aziz, as well as several other family members who were present to show their support.
The decision, scheduled to be announced at 9 am, will determine whether Syed Saddiq remains a free man or faces sentencing after the prosecution appealed against the earlier decision that acquitted him.
The case involves four charges of abetting criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering related to Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (ARMADA) funds.
Should the Federal Court dismiss the prosecution’s appeal, Syed Saddiq will remain acquitted of the charges.
However, should the prosecution’s appeal be allowed, he faces sentencing based on the conviction on the charges against him.
The three-member Federal Court panel chaired by Court of Appeal President, Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, together with Justice Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali and Justice Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, is expected to deliver the final appeal decision.
