PUTRAJAYA: The Government has decided that contributions for the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme (Lindung 24 Hour) are not mandatory.
According to Unity Government Spokesman, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, instead, the contributions are implemented on a voluntary basis, taking immediate effect.
He clarified that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the Cabinet meeting, had raised the feedback received regarding the implementation of a 0.75 per cent contribution from workers’ salaries for Lindung 24 Hour under the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
“Therefore, the Cabinet today has decided that the contribution is no longer mandatory, but instead implemented on a voluntary basis, taking immediate effect.
“Further statement regarding this decision will be issued by the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA),” he said in a statement today.
Previously, Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said that the contribution rate for the Lindung 24 Hour Scheme was far lower compared to most insurance products available in the market.
He said that the contribution rate of 0.75 per cent should be seen as a small investment to obtain comprehensive protection rather than as a burden to contributors.
The scheme was established to protect workers and their families in the event of accidents or mishaps outside working hours.
