JENGKA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has highlighted the close working relationship between the Pahang state government and the federal government as a model for other states, saying effective cooperation between both levels of administration is essential for resolving issues and accelerating development.

Speaking at the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) Settlers’ Day celebration and Felda’s 70th anniversary at Stadium Tun Abdul Razak in Jengka on Tuesday, Anwar said constructive ties between state and federal leaders help ensure that public needs and development requests can be addressed more efficiently.

“The good relationship between the Pahang state government and the federal government is something that other state leaders can learn from,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, strong cooperation and a willingness to negotiate enable governments to work together more effectively for the benefit of the people.

“When there is a good relationship, requests can be considered and implemented more smoothly. Those who understand the reference will get it,” he remarked.

Anwar’s comments come amid recent exchanges between the Prime Minister and caretaker Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi over the implementation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

The Prime Minister later stressed that the JS-SEZ should not be turned into campaign material ahead of the Johor state election, emphasising that the strategic economic initiative is a federal government project implemented in partnership with the Johor state government.

During the event, Anwar also proposed that future Felda Settlers’ Day celebrations and Felda anniversary events be held in regions with significant Felda communities rather than in major cities.

He said organising the celebrations closer to settlers would make the events more meaningful while also benefiting local businesses through increased visitor spending.

Holding the celebrations outside Kuala Lumpur would also reduce organisational costs, allowing the savings to be redirected toward programmes and initiatives that directly benefit Felda settlers, he added.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the welfare and development of Felda communities while encouraging continued collaboration between federal and state administrations to ensure effective governance and sustainable national development.
