KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s steps to strengthen health insurance regulations as well as the issue of retirement savings among Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors are among the focus of today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.

According to the Order of Business published on the Parliament portal, during the Ministerial Question Time session, Tan Kok Wai (PH-Cheras) posed a question to the Finance Minister regarding the government’s steps to strengthen insurance regulations to protect policyholders, particularly critical illness and cancer patients, from policy cancellations and unfair claim rejections, while also enhancing transparency and strengthening dispute resolution mechanisms.

Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) asked the Finance Minister to explain the government’s strategies to ensure that the people have sufficient retirement savings, particularly among EPF contributors, to face the rising cost of living and the challenges of an ageing population by 2030.

During the same session, Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) asked the Communications Minister to explain the effectiveness of the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in improving the socioeconomic status of rural communities, given that there remains a gap in terms of internet access, digital skills, and marketing among small entrepreneurs.

Also expected to be in focus are questions regarding the effectiveness of the Mobile Subsidised Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme (eCOSS) application since May 2025 in curbing leakage of subsidised cooking oil packets, as well as the effectiveness of financing schemes to assist micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which will be answered by the relevant ministers.

After the question-and-answer session, the sitting continues with a presentation by the Chairman of the Special Select Committee on Health regarding the committee’s report on the Reform of the National Organ Donation and Transplant System.

The Dewan Rakyat is also scheduled to continue with the debate and winding-up of the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2026 at the committee stage, as well as the second reading of the Competition Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026.

The Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament of the Dewan Rakyat runs for 16 days and is scheduled to end on 16 July.
