Houses In Johor Expensive, State Government Failed To Provide Affordable Homes – Anwar

BATU PAHAT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claims that the high price of houses in Johor is due to the state government’s failure to provide more affordable housing for the people.

He, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman, said that Johor, which is administered by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, has still been sidelining welfare matters related to the people’s interests.

According to him, the Federal Government led by PH has carried out many development projects in Johor, but housing for government officers, police, military personnel, and workers is still insufficient.

“The Federal Government has taken care of many development projects in Johor, but I see that housing for government officers, police, military personnel, and workers is still insufficient.

“Development has increased by billions of ringgit, but people’s houses are expensive. This is the state’s responsibility, the state did not do it, so I must intervene and ask for the state government to be aligned with PH so that we can develop people’s housing,” he said.

The Prime Minister said this when speaking at the ‘Yok Sarap!’ programme with PH candidates at a coffee shop in Medan, Pekan Senggarang, here this morning.

Also present were Communications Minister and PH Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and three PH candidates for three State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats namely Onn Abu Bakar (Senggarang), Mohamad Yazid Bakri (Rengit), and Felicia Poh (Penggaram).

Anwar said that a state government that is aligned with the Federal Government will facilitate efforts to develop more affordable housing and strengthen the people’s welfare.

He said that various assistance such as Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) and SARA have been channelled by the government regardless of political affiliation, but the state administration also needs to play a role in safeguarding the people’s welfare.

“We respect the people’s rights. Those in difficulty must be helped, those lacking food must be helped, and they do not need to queue or listen to speeches before receiving assistance.

“We must teach the way to administer the state in a more orderly manner and prioritise the people’s interests,” he said.

Meanwhile, Anwar stressed that Johor is a wealthy state and that prosperity must be enjoyed by the people comprehensively, not only benefiting a select few.

“Johor is a rich state. We do not want only a few people to become rich, while the majority of the people are still struggling.

“That is why this state must be aligned with the Federal Government. Pakatan Harapan must be given the opportunity to administer so that we can bring about change,” he said.
